Market days in Périgueux
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]You have to admit that a camping holiday in the Périgord without culinary immersion would be a crime committed against your taste buds. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine a cheap camping vacation in Montpon in the Dordogne without discovering the products of one of France’s richest terroirs. Périgueux’s markets are undoubtedly one of the best ways to familiarize yourself with the region’s gastronomy and chat with local producers.

The fat and truffle market
The foie gras and truffle market is a must for gourmets! Foie gras and truffles are probably the most coveted products of the Périgord, culinary jewels that contribute to the reputation of the region and its restaurants. In Périgueux, near our campsite on the banks of the Dordogne River, these two treasures have been in the spotlight twice a week between November and March, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, on Place Saint-Louis, between Square Daumesnil and the Périgord Museum of Art and Archaeology. Around 30 producers from towns and villages in the 24 region gather in the Périgord town center to offer goose and duck products (with a special mention for figs stuffed with foie gras), as well as delicious truffles and other specialties such as rillettes, ceps, strawberries and Périgord chestnuts. Demonstrations of cavage, presentations, tastings… Visitors are free to learn all about the products on display before buying them and going for a swim in the pool at our Périgord campsite. Good to know: truffles are on sale for a limited period in winter, from December to February.
